EHR push for Athenahealth

Automatically transfer notes from Freed to Athenahealth with a single click

Updated this week

EHR push is a single, powerful button that automatically maps and transfers notes from Freed into browser-based Athenahealth EHRs.

How does it work?

Just download and launch the Freed Chrome extension. Record your visit, then click Push to EHR. Freed will automatically transfer your note.

How to use EHR push

1. Install the Chrome extension

To use EHR Push, install the Freed Chrome extension. For the best experience, log into your Freed account in the same Chrome profile where the extension is installed.

Once installed, pin the extension to your browser toolbar for quick access.

Click the Freed icon in your toolbar to open the extension and log in.

(Note: To install the Chrome extension you must be using the Chrome web browser. Learn more about the Freed Chrome Extension.)

2. Open Athenahealth and launch the extension

While in your browser, click the extension. Freed will pop up on top of your EHR.

If the extension only displays a “Copy all” button, this indicates the connection with your EHR is not yet active. Ensure that your EHR is open in a browser tab and then click on the extension icon again.

⚠️ Important: For reliable note transfers, start the push from the HPI tab or Review tab in Athena.

3. Record your visit and push

Record your visit, review, and navigate to the chart in your EHR. Then, click Push to EHR. Your note will transfer automatically!

Freed to Athenahealth Section Mapping

Freed Section

Where it goes in Athena

Subjective

✅ All content within the Freed Subjective gets pushed to the HPI field in Athena.

Review of Systems

✅ All content within the Freed Review of Systems gets pushed to the Review of Systems field in Athena.

Objective

✅ All content within the Freed Objective gets pushed to the Physical Exam field in Athena.

Assessment & Plan

✅ All content within the Freed Assessment & Plan gets pushed to Athena. There are two destinations:

Matched diagnoses: If a diagnosis in your Freed note matches a diagnosis already present in your Athena chart, that content is pushed directly to the corresponding diagnosis card note.

Everything else: Unmatched diagnoses and the overall A&P summary go to the Assessment & Plan Summary field.

Note: Freed will not create new diagnoses in Athena. If a diagnosis is not already in your chart, its content will appear in the A&P Summary instead.

Patient Instructions

✅ All content within the Freed Patient Instructions gets pushed to the Patient Instructions field in Athena.

Troubleshooting

First verify that you are signed into Chrome with the account used during the installation of the Freed AI Chrome Extension.

If the Push to EHR button is not appearing or functioning, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the Freed Chrome extension. Ensure that the Freed Chrome extension is installed and updated to the latest version.

  2. Restart Your Browser. Quitting and reopening your browser can fix temporary connection issues.

  3. Confirm EHR Connection. If the extension only displays a “Copy all” button, ensure your EHR is open in a browser tab and click the extension icon again.

  4. Verify Your Chrome Account. Make sure you are signed into Chrome with the account used to install the Freed AI Chrome Extension to avoid visibility issues.
