Available for: Athenahealth and eClinicalWorks (eCW) push, using the Freed Chrome extension.
When Freed pushes your note into an EHR field that already has text in it, you can control whether Freed's content is added after or before what's already there. This is set with the EHR Push preferences in your Freed settings.
Where to find it
Open Settings in Freed.
Go to the EHR section.
Find the EHR Push preferences card found at the bottom of the page.
Existing EHR content: Append vs. Prepend
Under “Existing EHR content,” choose how Freed adds new text relative to content already in the EHR field:
Append (default) — Freed adds its content after the text already in the field.
Prepend — Freed adds its content before the text already in the field.
Either way, Freed adds to your existing text rather than overwriting it — your previously entered content is preserved.
How to set your preference
Go to Settings → EHR → EHR Push preferences.
Under Existing EHR content, select Append or Prepend.
Your choice saves automatically and applies to your next push.
In eCW, users can choose whether A&P content goes into Treatment Notes vs Internal Clinical Notes.
In Athena, users can choose whether A&P is pushed as structured by diagnosis or into a more general note format. Additionally, users can choose whether to push the Freed patient instructions to Athena.
Good to know
Make sure your Chrome extension is up to date. This preference requires a current version of the Freed extension — if you don't see the EHR Push preferences card, update the extension and reopen Freed.
This preference applies to Athena and eCW push. Other EHRs aren't affected.
