Freed Chrome Extension

Layer Freed on top of your EHR for faster, simpler note transfer

Updated yesterday

The Freed Chrome extension lets you use Freed directly on top of any browser-based EHR. This means you don’t need to switch tabs or juggle multiple windows—your Freed workspace floats in the same browser as your EHR.

With the extension, you can:

  • Record and review patient visits in Freed while your EHR is open.

  • Send notes directly to your EHR with EHR push (beta launching Oct. 1st, 2025).

  • Move or resize the Freed widget so you can keep documenting while navigating your EHR.

The extension is designed to reduce the number of steps it takes to complete documentation, so you can focus more on patients and less on copy-paste.

Features & benefits

  • Integrated workflow: Place Freed on top of your EHR browser, so you can record, review, and send notes without switching windows.

  • EHR push: Send notes into supported browser-based EHRs with one click. (Beta launching Oct. 1st, 2025)

  • Universal EHR support: Download the extension to work with any browser-based EHR.

  • Flexible fit: Expand, collapse, or move the extension wherever you need it.

  • Persistent recordings: Keep recording as you switch pages, tabs, and apps — even when you reload.

  • Streamlined multitasking: Document and reference your EHR data at the same time.

Freed Chrome extension best practices

Opening Freed's Chrome Extension on top of your browser-based EHR helps to keep your notes and EHR accessible within the same window, ensuring a seamless user experience.

Repositioning the extension

Hover over the top bar to reveal the drag handle, then drag to move the panel anywhere in your EHR window.

Discover app navigation

Use the menu to quickly get help, switch accounts, or open the full Freed web app.

Minimize the extension

Click the arrow in the upper-right to minimize the panel. Click it again to re-expand.

Navigating pages in your EHR

Freed keeps recording while you move between EHR pages. Check the recording indicator in the Chrome toolbar to confirm it’s active.

Streamline Copying

After you end a recording, you’ll land on the completed note. Click Copy note to paste into your EHR. If available for your EHR, EHR push (beta launching Oct. 1st, 2025) can place the note directly into the correct fields — click Push to EHR to use it.

NEW! We are rolling out a beta of Push to EHR, which allows Freed to transfer notes to your EHR's sections automatically. Learn more.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues maintaining recordings or multitasking, make sure you have the latest version installed and your Chrome browser is up-to-date.

Setting microphone permissions

The Freed Chrome extension needs access to your microphone so it can record visits.

The first time you use the extension, Chrome will automatically ask you to allow microphone access.

If you need to change this later:

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Microphone.

  3. Find the Freed Chrome extension in the list and update the permission.

Updating the Freed Chrome Extension

Method 1: Update all Extensions (recommended)

  1. Open Chrome and go to: chrome://extensions/

  2. In the top-right, toggle Developer mode on.

  3. Click the Update button to force all extensions to update immediately.

Method 2: Manually Update just the Freed Extension

  • On the same chrome://extensions/ page, find the extension you want to update.

  • Click the Reload button (circular arrow) to update just that extension.

Method 3: Disable & Re-Enable (Uninstall and Reinstall)

If you want to trigger a refresh for just one extension:

  1. On chrome://extensions/ - toggle the extension off, then on again.

  2. Chrome will reload it and sometimes fetch the latest update if one exists.
