EHR push for eClinicalWorks

Automatically transfer notes from Freed to eClinicalWorks with a single click

Updated over 2 weeks ago

EHR push is a single, powerful button that transfers notes from Freed into eClinicalWorks (eCW).

How does it work?

Just download and launch the Freed Chrome extension. Record your visit, then click Push to EHR. Freed will automatically transfer your note. The integration also features automatic field mapping, ensuring that Freed notes seamlessly align with eClinicalWorks' SOAP fields.

Before getting started, we highly recommend watching this 3-minute walkthrough to see the setup and workflow in action:

How to use EHR push

1. Install the Chrome extension

To use EHR Push, install the Freed Chrome extension. For the best experience, log in to your Freed account in the same Chrome profile where the extension is installed.

Once installed, pin the extension to your browser toolbar for quick access.

Click the Freed icon in your toolbar to open the extension and log in.

Note: To install the Chrome extension, you must be using the Chrome web browser. Learn more about the Freed Chrome Extension.

2. Open eClinicalWorks and launch the extension

To use the Freed extension and enable its integration features, you must access your eCW EHR directly through a Chrome browser rather than the installed web app. If you already know your eCW URL skip these steps:

Follow these steps to find your unique login URL:

  1. Locate the eCW Shortcut: Find the eCW icon on your desktop.

  2. Open Properties: Right-click the icon and select Properties from the menu.

  3. Find the Target Field: In the window that appears, look for the field labeled "Target". It will contain a long string of text similar to this:

C:\\ProgramData\\eClinicalWorks\\plugin\\eCWUrlLaunch.exe <https://youruniquesubdomain.ecwcloud.com/mobiledoc/jsp/webemr/login/newLogin.jsp>

4. Extract the URL: Highlight and Copy only the URL portion of that text (the part

starting with https:// and ending in .jsp).

5. Access via Chrome: Open a new Chrome browser tab, paste the URL into the

address bar, and press Enter.

6. Bookmark for Quick Access: Once the page loads, bookmark it so you can easily

access your EHR in Chrome next time.

You are now ready to use the Freed extension with eCW.

Start by logging into eClinicalWorks in a Chrome browser tab. Navigate to the patient’s active progress note. From the same Chrome window, click the Freed extension icon. Freed will pop up on top of your eClinicalWorks.

3. Record your visit and push

Record your visit, review, and confirm you have the correct patient open in eClinicalWorks. Then, click Push to EHR. Your note will transfer automatically!

Freed to eClinicalWorks Section Mapping

Freed Section

Where it goes in eCW

Subjective

✅ All Content within the Freed Subjective gets pushed to eCW. The content is divided in the following way:
· Chief Complaint > Chief Complaint in eCW
· ROS > ROS in eCW as free text
· Everything else > HPI (HPI category, if available)
+ If there is already text, Freed will append note to existing text

Objective

✅ All content within the Freed Objective gets pushed to eCW. The content gets push to Objective > Examination > Constitutional/General section
+ If there is already text, Freed will append the note to existing text

Assessment and Plan

✅ All content within the Freed Assessment and Plan gets pushed to eCW. There are two approaches:

Scenario 1: Start with Blank Note in eCW
· Use this approach if you want to use the ICD-10 codes in Freed. You have the option to add/remove codes in Freed prior to push.
· Each ICD-10 coded diagnosis in Freed, will create a corresponding diagnosis in eCW, in the Assessment section.
· In the Plan > Treatment section, details from your visit will be placed in ‘Internal Clinical Notes’ field corresponding to each diagnosis.

Scenario 2: Manually add Dx in eCW
· Before pushing your Freed note into eCW, manually add existing Dx. Use this approach if you want to use existing ICD-10 in eCW.
· Freed will first review existing diagnosis in the assessment section, and only add diagnosis that are not already present. Freed won’t override existing assessment.
· In Plan > Treatment section, details from your visit will be placed in ‘Internal Clinical Notes’ field corresponding to each diagnosis.

Troubleshooting

If the Push to EHR button is not appearing or functioning, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the Freed Chrome extension. Ensure the Freed Chrome extension is installed and up to date.

  2. Restart Your Browser. Quitting and reopening your browser can fix temporary connection issues.

  3. Ensure you are logged into your Freed AI account. The "Push to EHR" feature requires the user to be logged in.

  4. Check browser profile alignment. Both eClinicalWorks and Freed AI should be accessed via the same Chrome profile.
