Best Practices: Editing Your Note
Best Practices: Editing Your Note
Updated over a month ago

Freed captures patient visits and generates a SOAP note, saving time and streamlining documentation. Once you’ve captured a visit, use these best practices to refine your notes, ensuring they align with your preferences before adding them to your EHR.

Editing Options for Freed SOAP Notes

After Freed processes your visit, you’ll find the generated note under All Notes. Here’s how to make the most of Freed’s editing tools:

1. Visit Type

Choosing the correct Visit Type helps apply the right formatting based on the Learned Format for that Visit Type.

  • Visit Type Options:

    • New Patient

    • Returning Patient

Each Visit Type has its own Learned Format settings, which means adjustments made to one Visit Type won’t affect another. Always set the Visit Type and regenerate the note, if needed, before further edits.

2. Magic Edit

Magic Edit allows to prompt the AI to refine your note quickly with specific instructions:

  • Select Magic Edit from the top navigation bar, then type or dictate your instructions and select Update Note.

  • Tips for Success:

    • Be clear and concise.

    • Give specific, single instructions like “Add ROS to Subject Section” or “Change patient name spelling from Cathy to Kathy.”

Magic Edit is a versatile tool for quickly aligning your notes with your preferences.

3. Learn Format

With Learn Format, you can teach Freed your preferred section formatting for future notes.

  • How It Works: After manually editing a section, select Learn Format to save your formatting. It may take 3-5 edits for Freed to apply the format to future notes.

  • Section-Specific Learning: Learned formats are saved per section within each Visit Type, allowing for tailored formatting across different types of visits.

This feature is ideal for maintaining a consistent structure across your notes.

4. Pronouns

Quickly set the correct pronouns at the top of the SOAP note. Options include he/him, she/her, and they/them.

5. Note Length

Customize the detail level of the note on a per-note basis with the Note Length option:

  • Options:

    • Concise

    • Standard

    • Detailed

Note: This setting applies only to the current note.

Note Preferences

To set preferences for all future notes, go to Note Preferences where you can adjust:

  • Default Note Length (Concise, Standard, or Detailed)

  • Patient Title (Patient vs. Client)

  • Consent Language

  • Note Storage Preferences

These preferences will apply to all future notes created after updating.

Viewing the Full Transcript

For a word-for-word review of the patient conversation, scroll to the Transcript Summary section at the bottom of the SOAP note. Toggle on Full Transcript to see the entire conversation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Following these best practices helps ensure each note meets your standards, enhancing your documentation experience with Freed. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
