Templates: Learned

Updated this week

Learned Templates allow Freed to replicate your preferred note formatting automatically. Instead of manually setting up a Structured Template, you can simply edit a note the way you like it and use the Learn Format button to teach Freed how to apply that style moving forward.

What Are Learned Templates?

Learned Templates are automatically generated formatting templates based on example notes you've edited. Freed analyzes the structure and formatting of your note—such as headings, spacing, bullet vs. narrative style—and applies that same format to future notes for the same visit type.

Learned Templates are fast, flexible, and ideal for clinicians who want to minimize manual setup.

Where Learned Templates Apply

Learned Templates are available only for two preset visit types:

  • New Patient

  • Returning Patient

The purple icon in the Template dropdown list identifies Learned Templates.

Each of these visit types has its own set of Learned Examples.

If you require templates for other types of visits or want greater control over formatting structure, consider using Structured Templates.

How to Edit a Learned Template

  1. Open a completed note generated using the New Patient or Returning Patient Learned Template.

  2. Edit the note to reflect your preferred structure, including section headers, order, spacing, and formatting.

  3. Once you’re satisfied with the format, click “Learn Format” at the bottom of the section.

  4. Freed will save this example and use it as a reference for formatting future notes in that visit type.

Note: For best results, we recommend saving 3–5 consistent examples so Freed can better learn and generalize your formatting preferences.

How to Review or Delete Learned Examples

To review or manage the examples Freed has learned:

  1. Click the arrow next to the “Learn Format” button at the top of a note.

  2. Select “View Learned Examples.”

  3. You’ll see a list of the saved examples for that section

  4. Click “Delete” next to any example that no longer reflects your preferred formatting.

This is especially helpful if your style has changed or if Freed is generating inconsistent results.

Key Benefits of Learned Templates

  • Quick Setup: Just edit and click “Learn Format.”

  • Flexible Formatting: Captures narrative vs. bullet styles, spacing, and section ordering.

  • Personalization: Ideal for solo clinicians who prefer natural note flow over rigid templates.

Limitations

  • Only available for New Patient and Returning Patient visit types.

  • Not designed to capture specific word choices or tone—formatting only.

  • You cannot create additional Learned Template types.

  • Inconsistent formatting in your examples may lead to inconsistent output.

If you need more control, predefined structure, or support for multiple visit types, Structured Templates may be a better fit.

Summary

Learned Templates are a fast and intuitive way to personalize Freed’s output without needing to build anything manually. By saving just a few well-formatted examples, you can teach Freed how to generate future notes that match your unique style.
