Customize Freed with Dark Mode

Learn how to enable Dark Mode and customize Freed's appearance for a more comfortable viewing experience.

Freed now supports Dark Mode, giving you a darker color scheme that's easier on the eyes in low-light settings, helps reduce glare during late-night charting, and can conserve battery on devices with OLED screens. Whether you're documenting between back-to-back visits or wrapping up notes after hours, Dark Mode lets you work in a look that's comfortable for you.

Dark Mode is available to all Freed users across every plan tier, at no additional cost.

What is Dark Mode?

Dark Mode replaces Freed's bright, light-colored background with a dark palette while keeping your notes, transcripts, and controls easy to read. Everything you already use in Freed works exactly the same way—only the appearance changes.

You can choose to keep Freed in Light Mode, switch it to Dark Mode, or have it automatically match your device's system setting so it changes with your phone throughout the day. By default, Freed is set to Match system, so it follows your device's appearance automatically until you choose otherwise.

How to turn on Dark Mode on Freed Web App

  1. Open the Freed app on your device.

  2. Go to Personal.

  3. Select Preferences.

  4. Find Dark Mode and choose one of the following options:

    • Light – always use the standard light theme.

    • Dark – always use the dark theme.

    • Match system – let Freed follow your device's light/dark setting automatically.

Your choice is saved right away and applies the next time you open Freed.

At launch, Freed defaults to Match system and shows an intro banner where you can confirm or dismiss the setting.

Turning on Dark Mode for your device

If you've chosen Match system, Freed will follow your device's system-wide light/dark setting. Here's how to enable Dark Mode on the most common devices:

Device

Steps

iPhone

Open Settings → Display & Brightness, then under Appearance select Dark. Choose Automatic to switch on a schedule (for example, sunset to sunrise).

Mac

Open the Apple menu () → System Settings → Appearance, then select Dark (or Auto to switch with the time of day).

Windows

Open the Start menu → Settings → Personalization → Colors, then under Choose your mode select Dark.

Tips

  • Your Dark Mode preference is saved per device and doesn't carry over to your other devices—set it on each device you use.

  • If you'd like Freed to switch automatically between day and night, choose Match system and set a schedule in your device's display settings.

  • Dark Mode is a visual preference only—it doesn't change how your notes are generated, stored, or shared.

  • You can switch back to Light Mode at any time by returning to Personal → Preferences → Dark Mode.
