Introducing: The New Freed App for iOS

Get familiar with the new iOS Freed app experience.

Updated yesterday

We’ve redesigned the Freed mobile experience from the ground up — and it’s now available as a fully native app on iOS.

This new version focuses on what matters most when you're on the go: fast, reliable recording that fits your clinical workflow. Whether you're in clinic, on call, or at home, the mobile app gives you a streamlined way to capture visits and stay in sync with your desktop workflow.

A New Mobile Experience, Built for Recording

The updated mobile app improves the experience of recording visits on your iPhone or iPad — while giving you control over patient selection, templates, and mic input.

Key improvements:

  • Native performance for iOS

  • Intuitive recording controls with visual feedback

  • Offline recording and auto-sync

  • Patient and template selection before recording begins

  • Clear, minimal UI designed for clinical speed

How to Record a Visit in the Mobile App

Recording a visit is designed to be fast and flexible — just a few taps to get started.

1. Open the app and sign in

Use your Freed credentials to log in. Your notes and settings will sync across devices.

2. Select or add a patient

Tap the patient field to:

  • Search for an existing patient by name

  • Or tap "New Patient" to create a new entry on the fly

Patient names will carry over to your Freed note as usual.

3. Choose a template

Tap the Template field to pick from your Structured or Learned Templates.

  • You can also record without a template, if you prefer to add structure later.

4. Choose your microphone

Tap the Mic Input field to select your desired recording source (e.g. built-in mic, connected Bluetooth mic, or external device).

5. Start recording

Tap the large purple record button to begin.

  • The button will pulse while Freed is actively recording.

  • You can speak freely — Freed will handle the rest.

Pausing and Ending a Visit

Sometimes you need a break mid-visit or want to control when the note wraps up. The new app makes that easy.

To pause the recording:

  • Press and hold on the purple record button.

  • This will pause the recording without ending the session.

  • You can tap again to resume recording at any time.

To end the visit:

  • Use the slide-to-end control at the bottom of the screen.

  • Swipe fully across the slider to finish the visit and stop recording.

Freed will then begin processing the visit into a full transcript and SOAP note.

Recording Offline? No Problem

If you’re working in a location without internet access:

  • You can still record visits offline

  • As soon as your phone reconnects, Freed will upload the audio and generate the note

  • You’ll see the visit synced to your desktop automatically

This is ideal for mobile settings, in-home visits, or poor network environments.

Viewing and Editing Your Notes

Once your note is generated, you can view it directly in the mobile app, and make quick edits as needed.

However, for more advanced editing, changing your templates, or pushing notes to your EHR, we recommend switching to Freed on desktop.

The web version gives you access to a full editing interface, Magic Edit, and easier ways to transfer your note from Freed to your EHR with the Freed Chrome Extension.

Sync across devices

Your account stays in sync between mobile, tablet, and desktop:

  • Notes recorded on mobile appear in your desktop dashboard, and vice versa.

  • Templates and patient lists remain sync.

  • Edits made on either device are synced automatically.

There’s no need to move files or manage versions.
