Transfer your note from Freed to your EHR

How to transfer notes from Freed to your EHR, EMR, or other documentation solution.

Freed is designed to work alongside every EHR and EMR using a copy-paste functionality from the Freed website, app, or Chrome extension.

You can also use the Chrome extension to transfer your note to your EHR with one click.

You can copy the whole note, individual sections, or blocks of text, and paste it into your EHR.

Copy your Note

You can copy all or sections of your note directly from Freed's website or app.

Option 1: Copy all sections

Click the Copy all button to copy all sections (Subjective, Objective, Assessment & Plan) of the note. The location of the 'Copy all' button depends on the interface you are using: in the Note Panel, look for the overlaid-boxes copy icon in the far-right note rail or open the dropdown menu within the note panel and select the 'Copy all' command. In the Dashboard (Transcribed Notes), the 'Copy all' button is located in the top-right corner of the transcribed note.

Note: Copy all copies the Note tab only. ICD-10, CPT, and E/M codes live on the separate Codes tab (Premier and Group); patient instructions live on the Instructions tab; clinical letters live on the Clinical letter tab. Open each tab and copy from there if you want those alongside your note.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Issue: Extra or Jumbled Text Appears When Pasting

This issue occurs when note content is accidentally placed in a section’s title (e.g., the Subjective/HPI header) instead of the section body. Since 'Copy all' includes section titles, any extra text in a header will be copied and appear above your pasted note.

Fix:

  1. Open the affected note or template.

  2. Locate the section title (e.g., Subjective/HPI header) where the extra text appears.

  3. Remove the pasted note text from the title and rename it back to a clean label like "Subjective."

  4. Save the changes. After correcting the section title, the 'Copy all' feature will paste the note cleanly. To avoid this issue in the future, ensure that note content is entered in the section body, not the title.

Issue: Clipboard Errors When Pasting

Users may encounter errors such as "Data too long," "Corrupted," or "Clipboard is full" when pasting notes into an EHR system. These errors are typically caused by clipboard limitations within the EHR system, not by Freed. EHR systems often restrict the amount of text or formatting that can be pasted in a single transfer.

Fix:

  1. Copy and Paste in Smaller Chunks: Instead of copying all your notes at once, break them into smaller sections (e.g., paragraphs or individual sections) and paste them one at a time.

  2. Paste as Plain Text: If pasting fails, first paste the content into a plain-text editor (e.g., Notepad on Windows or TextEdit in plain-text mode on Mac). Then, copy the plain text and paste it into the EHR system. This removes any formatting that might exceed the clipboard limits.

  3. Test Another Browser: If issues persist, try using a different browser to see if the problem is browser-specific.

  4. Use Incognito/Private Mode: Open your browser in Incognito or Private mode to rule out interference from browser extensions.

  5. Disable Extensions: Temporarily disable any browser extensions that might affect clipboard access.

Troubleshooting Cross-Device Copy/Paste Issues

If you encounter issues when copying and pasting across devices (e.g., from a mobile device to a Mac):

  1. Access the Note on the Same Device: Open Freed on the device where you want to paste the note (e.g., your Mac).

  2. Copy Directly from Freed: Locate the note in Freed on the target device and copy it directly.

  3. Paste into the Target Platform: Use the appropriate paste shortcut (Command+V on Mac or Ctrl+V on Windows) to paste the content into your EMR or other platform.

Option 2: Copy individual sections

Click the "Copy" button within each section's header to copy just a selected section.

Option 3: Copy a block or a selection

Hover over a paragraph or block of text, and click the copy icon (two stacked rectangles) that appears to copy that block. Hold down the Shift key to highlight and copy multiple contiguous blocks or paragraphs at once.

You can also highlight any custom portion of text and copy the selection using one of these methods:

  • Secondary-click/right-click > Copy

  • Windows keyboard shortcut: CTRL + C

  • Mac keyboard shortcut: Command + C

  • Use the Shift key to highlight and select multiple sections prior to copying.

Paste your Note

Once copied, you can paste the selected text into your EHR, EMR, or other documentation solution. To quickly do so, you can use one of these methods:

  • Secondary-click/right-click > Paste

  • Windows keyboard shortcut: CTRL + V

  • Mac keyboard shortcut: Command + V

Use the Freed Chrome Extension

For a more convenient experience, use the Freed Chrome Extension to use Freed alongside any web-based EHR or EMR.

You can record, format, and copy directly from the extension, and transfer your note to your EHR with a single click.

Want to skip copy-paste entirely? Freed's EHR Push feature can send your note directly into a supported EHR with one click. EHR Push is included on the Premier and Groups plans — upgrade any time from your account settings.

Before you sign: whether you copy and paste or use EHR Push, review and verify all transferred information in your EHR, including that it is in the correct patient's chart, before signing the note.
