We’ve redesigned the Freed mobile experience from the ground up. The Android version focuses on what matters most when you're on the go: fast, reliable recording that fits your clinical workflow.
Whether you're in clinic, on call, or at home, the mobile app gives you a streamlined way to capture visits and stay in sync with your desktop workflow.
A Mobile Experience Built for Recording
The Android mobile app gives you control over patient selection, templates, and mic input.
Key features:
Intuitive recording controls with visual feedback
Patient and template selection before recording begins
Clear, minimal UI designed for clinical speed
How to Record a Visit in the Mobile App
Recording a visit is designed to be fast and flexible — just a few taps to get started.
1. Open the app and sign in
Use your Freed credentials to log in. Your notes and settings will sync across devices.
2. Start a Visit, then select or add a patient
Tap the patient field to:
Search for an existing patient by name
Or tap "New Patient" to create a new entry on the fly
Patient names will carry over to your Freed note as usual.
3. Choose a template
Tap the Template field to pick from a saved template.
If you don't select a template, Freed will default to the latest template used
4. Choose your microphone
Tap the Mic Input field to select your desired recording source (e.g. built-in mic, connected Bluetooth mic, or external device).
If you don't select a microphone, Freed will default to the latest microphone used
Be sure that headphones/headsets are not used as the microphone since Freed cannot capture the patient's side of the conversation if you're wearing headphones.
5. Start recording
Tap the large purple record button to begin.
The button will pulse while Freed is actively recording.
You can speak freely — Freed will handle the rest.
You can move the app into the background if you prefer not to see the pulsing button during recording. This will not affect the recording in progress. You can monitor audio recording while the Freed app is backgrounded. Moving the app into the background will also reduce battery usage.
Alternatively: Press Capture
If you want to start recording immediately and skip name, template and microphone selection, you can simply tap the Capture button. You can edit details, such as patient name and template, afterwards.
Pausing and Ending a Visit
Sometimes you need a break mid-visit or want to control when the note wraps up. The new app makes that easy.
To pause the recording:
Press and hold on the purple record button.
This will pause the recording without ending the session.
You can tap again to resume recording at any time.
Some clinicians prefer to resume the recording after leaving the patient's room in order to dictate physical exam findings before ending the visit recording.
To end the visit:
Use the slide-to-end control at the bottom of the screen.
Swipe across the slider to finish the visit and stop recording.
Freed will then begin processing the visit into a full transcript and SOAP note.
For context, the reason for the long-press for pausing and swiping for ending is to prevent accidental pauses/completions of in-progress recordings.
Viewing and Editing Your Notes
Once your note is generated, you can view it directly in the mobile app and make quick edits as needed.
However, for more advanced editing, access to Clinician Assistant, changing your templates, or pushing notes to your EHR, we recommend switching to Freed on desktop.
Sync across devices
Your account stays in sync between mobile, tablet, and desktop:
Notes recorded on mobile appear in your desktop dashboard, and vice versa.
Templates and patient lists remain sync.
Edits made on either device are synced automatically.
There’s no need to move files or manage versions.
Troubleshooting
The app runs best on an Android device with the latest software version.
If you're experiencing any issues, please update to the latest Android software version.
If you're having issues with the visit not generating, log out and back into the app.
