Structured Templates: Editing 'Subjective' or 'Objective' Sections

Updated this week

Freed’s Template Builder allows you to fully customize the Subjective and Objective sections of your Structured Templates. You can edit, reorder, remove, or add subsections to match your preferred documentation style and clinical workflow.

How to Delete a Subsection

To delete a subsection from either the Subjective or Objective section:

  1. Navigate to the Template Builder by selecting a template in My Library and clicking Edit.

  2. Click the caret (▸) next to the subsection name to expand it.

  3. Click the trash can icon in the upper right corner of the expanded subsection.

This will permanently remove that subsection from the Subjective/Objective section.

Showing or Hiding Subsection Headers in the Note

Each subsection includes an eye icon that allows you to control whether its header is displayed in the final note output.

To show or hide a subsection header:

  1. Open the Template Builder and expand the subsection by clicking the caret (▸).

  2. In the top right corner of the subsection, click the eye icon to toggle visibility.

    • Eye visible: The header (e.g., “Review of Systems”) will appear in the note.

    • Eye crossed out: The header will be hidden in the note output.

Customizing Subsection Style and Length

Each subsection in the Subjective and Objective sections can be tailored by adjusting its style and length:

  1. Click the caret (▸) to expand the subsection.

  2. Style: Choose between

    • Bullet – outputs bulleted lists

    • Paragraph – outputs full-sentence narrative text

  3. Length: Choose between

    • Standard – provides fuller detail

    • Concise – offers a more succinct summary

These settings help control the tone and format of each section to match your documentation preferences.

Reordering Subsections

To change the order of subsections:

  1. Hover over the left edge of a subsection until the drag handle appears.

  2. Click and drag the subsection to your desired position within the section.

You can reorder subsections freely to reflect the logical flow of your notes.

Adding a New Subsection

To add a new subsection to the Subjective or Objective section:

In the Template Builder, navigate to the section (Subjective or Objective) where you want to insert the new content. Click “New Subsection” at the bottom of that section. Choose from the following options:

Pre-Made Subsections

Select from a list of predefined options developed by Freed for your specialty. These are great for common clinical content areas (e.g., HPI, ROS, Vitals).

Fixed Text

Insert static text that will appear exactly the same in every note.
Example: Consent language or standard disclaimers.

Custom Subsection

Design your own AI-powered prompt. This is an advanced feature that lets you instruct Freed on how to generate content using your own wording, tone, and structure.

Note: Custom subsections require careful prompt design and are best for clinicians looking to deeply personalize their note generation.
