Freed offers two types of note templates to help you create documentation that fits your workflow: Learned Templates and Structured Templates.
Understanding the differences between these two options will help you choose the best approach for your clinical documentation needs.
Select a Template for your Note
Freed provides pre-made templates based on the medical specialty you choose when signing up. The default templates will automatically be added to your library so you can start using them immediately.
Template Types
Freed offers two different types of templates: Learned Templates and Structured Templates.
Learned templates, indicated by a purple icon, use AI to learn from your edits and style. Think of this option as "learn by doing" -- simply edit a note to your liking, click the Learn Format button, and Freed will generate future notes to match the format and style based on your edits.
Structured templates, indicated by a blue icon, generate notes based on a fixed structure that you define. Think of this option as an "outline" that Freed follows to create a note -- this feature provides a more fixed solution, better suited for group settings where consistent notes among multiple providers is preferred.
Use a Template
You can select a template before a visit so that your note generates in your preferred format, or after if you'd like to decide on a template later:
Option 1: Select a template before capturing your conversation
You can select a template at the beginning of a visit, before clicking Capture Conversation. The initial note will be processed using that Template.
Option 2: Change a template after your note is generated
Additionally, you can switch an already processed note into a different Template, and Freed will regenerate the entire SOAP note using the selected template.
Use the Template Library
You can view, edit, and manage all templates added to your account in the Template Library. Click the Templates icon in the left sidebar to view your Template Library.
You can also view and add other pre-made templates from Freed, as well as add any shared templates if using Freed as part of a group.
Manage your Templates
Click the star icon to add a template to your favorites. This will bring the starred template to the top of your list when using the template selector in the recording or editing screen.
Click the ellipses (three dots) to open template actions to edit, duplicate, delete, or star/unstar the template.
Please note that Freed default templates that have been added to your account automatically cannot currently be deleted.
Edit your Templates
In the Template Library, click on a template to open its editor. If you're editing a Freed default template, you'll need to duplicate the template first before editing.
Edit a Learned Template
Clicking on a Learned Template will open its Example Note. This is the hypothetical note that Freed uses to format newly generated notes. You can edit the example note directly in the same way you can edit a note. You can:
Insert, remove, and re-order subsections within the SOAP note
Change punctuation, formatting, and units of measurement
Use numbered or bulleted lists
To add a consent statement to a Learned Template:
Insert your consent statement in the note, surrounded by quotation marks (" "), in your desired location, directly into the Example Note.
Save your changes.

Edit a Structured Template
Clicking on a Structured Template will open the Template Builder. Here, you can add, remove, and re-order subsections within the outline of the SOAP note. You can:
Define subsection preferences such as format, length, and heading visibility
Add a fixed text subsection for text you'd like to always include
Add a custom subsection to write your own prompt to capture specific details
Please note that you cannot edit a Freed default Structured Template. Duplicate the template first to edit it in the template builder.
To add a consent statement to a Learned Template:
Click the New Subsection button and select the option to add Fixed Text.
Enter your consent statement in the Fixed Text subsection, and drag to position the subsection where desired.
Save your changes.
