Best Practices: Audio Capture & Device Permissions
Updated this week

We aim to make Freed easy to use while helping you properly set up your devices for an optimal experience. By following these best practices for audio capture, device setup, and telehealth visits, you can enhance Freed's accuracy and performance, ensuring top-quality SOAP notes.

Audio Capture Best Practices

Topic

Best Practice

Telehealth Visits

Do not use headphones or headsets, as Freed needs to hear both sides of the conversation. Have the telehealth platform open in one window and Freed in another. Select "Capture" to start and "End" when the session is over. In some cases, speakerphone for telehealth visits fails due to echo cancellation technology.

Headphones/Headsets Usage

Cannot be used for patient visits (telehealth or in-person) but can be used for dictation with Bluetooth headphones as a mic.

Phone Calls

Freed can capture regular phone calls by placing the call on speaker and using a second device, like a tablet or computer, with Freed open to record and transcribe the conversation.

Quiet Environment

Aim for a quiet environment. Background noise from places like coffee shops can interfere with accurate audio capture, so minimize ambient noise.

Laptop Setup

Position your laptop as close as possible to both the clinician and patient for better audio capture. Keep the lid open and oriented toward the conversation.

Phone Setup

Place the phone on a stable surface, positioned between the clinician and patient, to capture both sides of the conversation effectively.

External Microphones

Position external microphones closer to the participants and oriented toward the conversation to capture clear audio.

Screen Lock Prevention

Freed does not automatically prevent screen lock. Pausing and resuming recording is possible, so ensure you manually prevent screen lock during use.

Multi-Tab Use

Yes, you can switch between tabs (e.g., Freed and your EHR) while Freed continues capturing audio.

Following these guidelines will help improve the overall experience when using Freed for dictation and audio capture in various settings.
