Account Authentication Methods: Google Sign-In, 2FA/MFA, and SSO
Updated this week

When accessing your Freed account, you have different authentication options to choose from: Google Sign-In, Two-Factor or Multi-Factor Authentication (2FA/MFA), and Single Sign-On (SSO). Each method offers varying levels of convenience and security, depending on your needs.

Google Sign-In

Definition: Google Sign-In is a sign-on service provided by Google, allowing users to log into Freed using their Google credentials.

Purpose & Security: Google Sign-In makes logging into Freed easy and secure by utilizing Google’s authentication protocols.

Workflow: When signing into Freed with Google, you won’t create a password specifically for your Freed account. Instead, you’ll select the "Sign in with Google" option. From then on, Google will be required to log into your Freed account.

Set-Up & Support: If you need to change the email address associated with your Google Sign-In account for Freed, you won’t be able to do so on your own. You will need to contact [email protected] for assistance.

2FA/MFA (Two-Factor/ Multi-Factor Authentication)

Definition: 2FA/MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring two or more verification steps before granting access to your Freed account. This often involves using an external app like Authy or Google Authenticator to generate authentication codes.

Purpose & Security: 2FA/MFA enhances security by ensuring that access to your account requires more than just a password, making it significantly harder for unauthorized users to gain entry.

Workflow: When logging into Freed with your email and password, you'll be redirected to a second screen that prompts you to enter an authentication code from the app you've chosen, providing additional protection.

Set-Up & Support: You can use any external 2FA/MFA app for your Freed account. However, you’ll need to manage the setup and future authentication steps directly through the app you choose.

SSO (Single Sign-On)

Definition: Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication method that allows users to access multiple systems, including Freed, using a single set of credentials. This method is often used in workplace environments for easier access management.

Purpose & Security: SSO streamlines the login process across multiple services while centralizing security management, making it convenient and efficient for both users and administrators.

Workflow: With SSO, users can access Freed seamlessly by logging into their work dashboard. Freed will be available without requiring a separate login, providing a smooth user experience.

Set-Up & Support: SSO is available only for Group Plans at Freed and only if the Group Admin has enabled this feature. To activate SSO for a group, the Group Admin needs to contact support at [email protected]

Conclusion

Whether you prefer the ease of Google Sign-In, the added security of 2FA/MFA, or the streamlined access of SSO, Freed offers flexible options to meet your authentication needs. Each method provides a different balance of convenience and security, allowing you to choose what works best for you or your organization.
