Talk, don't type. A mic button at the top of your note lets you add detail by speaking — the text lands wherever your cursor is, so you can dictate into any part of the note. You can even say things like "period" or "new paragraph" and Freed will add the punctuation for you.
Where to find it
The dictation mic button sits at the top of the note, next to the Resume button.
Because it's at the top rather than tied to one section, you can click anywhere in the note and dictate into that location.
How to add a dictation
Dictations can only be added after a visit recording is ended and the note is generated.
Open a Freed note
Click your cursor where you want the text to go.
Click the mic button at the top of the note, next to Resume.
Speak — your words are added at the cursor.
Want to add detail somewhere else while you're still talking? Just click into a different spot in the note — Freed keeps listening and starts adding your words there, no need to stop and start again.
Add punctuation and paragraph breaks by voice
While you're dictating, you can verbalize punctuations and Freed will turn it into the real thing instead of typing out the word:
Say "period" → Freed adds a period (.)
Say "comma" → Freed adds a comma (,)
Say "question mark" → Freed adds a question mark (?)
Say "new paragraph" → Freed starts a new paragraph

Which plans have access to Dictate to Edit?
It's available on Premier and Groups plans, on the web version of Freed.
Can I use it on my phone app or the Chrome extension?
Not yet — it's currently only available on the web version of Freed, either on your computer or mobile web browser.
Can Freed add punctuation automatically?
Yes — say words like "period," "comma," "question mark," or "new paragraph" while dictating, and Freed adds the matching punctuation or line break.
Can I dictate while Freed is recording my visit?
No — recording and dictating both use your microphone so end your recording first. Dictation will be available only once the note is generated.
What if I start talking before I click into the note?
Freed will only capture and document speech after your cursor is placed in the note.
Can I switch to a different section while I'm still talking?
Yes — click into a new spot and Freed keeps adding your words there without needing to stop and start again.
Will Freed editorialize or augment what I say?
No. The dictation feature will add your words as spoken, plus punctuation and paragraph breaks when you say them out loud. It will not restructure your sentences. It will not rewrite, summarize, or reword anything you say.
Can I dictate using the AI chat? How is the Dictate to Edit different than using the microphone button in the AI chat?
Dictate to Edit will directly add dictations into your note. This is separate from the mic button in the AI chat, which dictates into the AI chat window. While you can prompt the AI chat to insert dictations into the note, the Dictate to Edit feature allows for a more streamlined workflow.
