Templates that learn

Templates that adapt to your editing style over time, so your notes sound more like you with every visit.

By default, Auto Learn is turned off.

When Auto Learn is disabled, Freed will not automatically update your template based on your note edits. Instead, you can choose when your template learns by clicking the Learn format button at the top of any visit page. This lets you apply formatting improvements one visit at a time with a single click.

If you want Freed to continuously improve your template automatically, you can enable Auto Learn in your settings. Once enabled, Freed will analyze the edits you make to generated notes after every visit and update your template in the background so future notes better match your preferred style and structure.

How to enable Auto Learn

  1. Open Template library

  2. Navigate to the desired Templates (Each template will need to be enabled)

  3. Turn on Auto Learn

After enabling Auto Learn, Freed will automatically learn from your note edits without requiring you to click Learn format manually.

How It Works

After Freed generates a SOAP note, simply edit it to match your preferred style. Auto Learn is off by default — we highly recommend turning it on for automatic, hands-free template updates. If Auto Learn is off, click Learn format at the top of the visit after editing to trigger the update manually.

Auto-Learn captures:

  • Section order, headings, and spacing

  • Abbreviations and preferred terminology

  • Narrative vs. bullet-point style

  • Verbatim text in quotation marks, such as consent statements or boilerplate language that should appear exactly the same each time

  • Overall level of conciseness and documentation style

Once Auto Learn detects your edits (or you click Learn format if Auto Learn is off), Freed processes your changes and updates your template’s Example Note, the reference used to generate future notes. This typically takes about a minute and happens in the background while you continue working.

What the Workflow Looks Like

  1. Record your visit as usual. Freed generates a SOAP note using your current template.

  2. Edit the note to match your preferred structure, style, and content. For example:

    • Reorder sections, such as moving Assessment before Plan

    • Convert a paragraph-style HPI into bullet points

    • Shorten the note or remove unused sections

    • Add a consent statement in quotes: "Patient verbally consented to the use of AI documentation."

  3. When you’re done editing, Freed automatically detects your changes and updates the template in the background (if Auto Learn is on). If Auto Learn is off, click Learn format at the top of the visit to trigger the update manually.

  4. Future notes generated from that template will reflect your preferences, reducing the need for edits over time.

View and Revert Version History

Auto-Learn keeps a complete version history of every template update. You can:

  • View version history to see how your template has evolved

  • Revert to a previous version if an unintended change was captured

To access version history, click Templates in the sidebar, select a template, and choose the version history option.

Key Features of the Note Editor

Streamlined layout
A more compact design makes it easy to skim, scan, and edit long notes quickly.

Transcript
Transcripts are accessible from within the visit view, so you can easily reference the full conversation or summaries while editing your note.

Resume visit

Append additional content to your original note without starting from scratch — perfect for recording a quick follow-up, adding new findings or clarification, or capturing something the patient forgot to mention earlier.

Copy Content

  • Hover over any text and a block will be highlight. Click to copy that specific section of text.

  • Copy all by clicking the copy all icon found at the top of your visit note.

  • To break a section into multiple copyable blocks, press the return key twice to create a new block. Each individual block can now be copied separately.

View Transcripts

  • Click the vertical three-dot icon () found next to the copy all at the top of your visit note.

  • You can copy full transcripts or summaries from here — perfect if you need to reference or reuse language from the encounter.

Resume a Visit

Adding a quick dictation on top of a finished note? For best results, use the dictation (microphone) button in the AI chat at the bottom of the right-hand panel rather than Resume. When you click Resume and dictate on top of a completed note, Freed reruns the full transcript (the original visit plus your new dictation) through your template, which can rewrite or reshuffle the note rather than simply appending your dictation. Resume is best when you're actually continuing the encounter — e.g., the patient mentions something new and you want it captured into the visit. For ad-hoc additions or edits to an already-finished note, the AI chat is the smoother path. See Introducing: Freed Clinician Assistant for the step-by-step.

  • When viewing a completed note, click the Resume button in the recording controls to add additional details to the note, just as you would when recording the initial encounter. Click the End visit button when you're finished recording.

  • Freed will regenerate the entire note and integrate the new details into your SOAP note. You can review and edit your note as you normally would.
