You can now get ICD-10 diagnosis codes generated for you — automatically — in the Codes tab of each visit in Freed.
This feature is designed to save time, reduce friction, and help ensure that coding is more consistent and billing-ready, right from the note you’re already creating.
Looking for more advanced coding features? The Coding Assistant (included free for Premier and Group subscribers) builds on ICD-10 auto-generation by adding CPT/E/M code suggestions, post-visit coding optimizations, and a clinic-wide Coding Dashboard.
Availability: Automatic ICD-10 code generation is included in the Premier and Group tiers. For CPT/E/M codes and post-visit coding optimizations, see the Coding Assistant (also included in Premier and Group at no additional cost).
About Clinical Codes in Freed
ICD-10 codes are now included automatically in the Codes tab at the top of your visit. These codes are based on the content of your visit — no extra clicks or setup needed.
Freed analyzes your transcript and note to identify relevant diagnoses and selects the most appropriate ICD-10 codes. This feature prioritizes billable, clinician-useful codes and avoids unbillable or overly generic ones.
Your visit tabs run across the top of the visit: Context, Note, Codes, Instructions, and + (to add a clinical letter). ICD-10 codes live in Codes, below the CPT section.
Reviewing and Adjusting Your Codes
Each code appears as its own row: the code on the left, the diagnosis description beside it. Codes are not free text — you adjust them using the controls on the row rather than typing into the note.
Swap a code for an alternative. Click the code itself to open its dropdown and see alternative recommendations for that diagnosis, then pick the one you want.
Add a code. Click + Add code at the bottom of the ICD-10 list, then start typing a diagnosis or a specific ICD-10 code in the Search for diagnosis or ICD-10 codes field and select a result.
Remove a code. Hover over the row and use the delete action to take a code off the list.
Copying into Your EHR
ICD-10 codes are presented in a simple, copy-ready format.
Click the copy icon at the end of a row to copy just that code, or click Copy all in the ICD-10 section header to copy the whole section, including codes and descriptions.
Heads up: Copy all in the Note tab copies your note sections only — it does not include your codes. Copy codes separately from the Codes tab.
Things to Know
This feature is informational only — Freed does not submit codes to payers or billing systems.
The goal is to streamline your workflow, not replace clinical coding decisions. Codes will continue to improve as we refine our clinical language model.
If you are an administrator on a Groups plan, you can also standardize how codes are generated across your organization and review coding patterns clinic-wide — see Advanced Coding Tools.
