Best Practices for Using Freed's Chrome Extension

Opening Freed's Chrome Extension on top of your browser-based EHR helps to keep your notes and EHR accessible within the same window, ensuring a seamless user experience.

Repositioning the extension

Hover over the extension navigation bar to reveal the drag handle, then use it to reposition the Freed extension within your EHR window.

Discover app navigation

Access key actions quickly using the contextual menu. From here, you can find help or support, switch accounts, or launch the Freed web app to open the full suite of product features.

Minimize the extension

The Freed Chrome Extension supports a minimized view to free up screen space while capturing conversations. Simply click the arrow icon in the upper right-hand corner to minimize the extension. Click the same button to re-expand.

Navigating pages in your EHR

The Freed Extension will keep recording your session even while navigating to different pages in your EHR. The recording marker in the Chrome toolbar indicates that recording is in progress, ensuring reliable recordings without data loss.

Streamline Copying

After finishing a recording, you’ll be automatically redirected to the completed note. From here you can copy the note immediately and paste it into your EHR, saving you time and keeping your workflow efficient.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues maintaining recordings or multitasking ensure you have the latest version installed and your Chrome browser is up-to-date.

Setting microphone permissions

Freed Chrome Extension needs to grant microphone permissions. These permissions are automatically requested when the extension is first used. If you need to adjust those permissions you can access them at any time in your Chrome settings.

Updating the Freed Chrome Extension

Method 1: Update all Extensions (recommended)

  1. Open Chrome and go to: chrome://extensions/

  2. In the top-right, toggle Developer mode on.

  3. Click the Update button to force all extensions to update immediately.

Method 2: Manually Update just the Freed Extension

  • On the same chrome://extensions/ page, find the extension you want to update.

  • Click the Reload button (circular arrow) to update just that extension.

Method 3: Disable & Re-Enable (Uninstall and Reinstall)

If you want to trigger a refresh for just one extension:

  1. On chrome://extensions/ - toggle the extension off, then on again.

  2. Chrome will reload it and sometimes fetch the latest update if one exists.
