Introducing: Clinical Codes

Learn how to work with ICD-10 codes in Freed.

Updated this week

You can now get ICD-10 diagnosis codes generated for you — automatically — as part of your SOAP note in Freed.

This feature is designed to save time, reduce friction, and help ensure that coding is more consistent and billing-ready, right from the note you’re already creating.

What’s New

  • ICD-10 codes are now included automatically with your generated note, after the SOAP sections.

  • These codes are based on the content of your visit — no extra clicks or setup needed. Freed intelligently adds codes and makes suggestions based on the transcript of the conversation.

  • Codes are editable just like any other section of your note.

  • If the suggested code isn’t quite right, you can click on the dropdown menu in which the code is shown to view alternative recommendations.

  • To remove a suggested code, click the small "X" next to it.

  • You can add codes manually by using the search bar to type a specific ICD-10 code or description, then selecting the appropriate suggestion from the dropdown list.

How It Works

  • Freed analyzes your transcript and note to identify relevant diagnoses and selects the most appropriate ICD-10 codes.

  • This feature prioritizes billable, clinician-useful codes and avoids unbillable or overly generic ones.

Editing and Adjustments

  • You can edit the ICD-10 code section manually by clicking into it like any other part of your note.

  • The list will include a primary code recommendation and expandable alternative options, if applicable.

  • To remove an unwanted code, click the small "X" next to it.

  • Add a new code by entering keywords or a specific ICD-10 code in the search bar and selecting the desired option from the dropdown menu.

Copying into Your EHR

  • ICD-10 codes are presented in a simple, copy-ready format.

  • Click the copy icon next to the code to copy just the code, or click the copy icon for the section to copy the entire section, including codes and descriptions.

Things to Know

  • This feature is informational only — Freed does not submit codes to payers or billing systems.

  • The goal is to streamline your workflow, not replace clinical coding decisions.

  • Codes will continue to improve as we refine our clinical language model.
